We will learn all parts of a traditional Guinean rhythm: djembe, dunun, intro & song! For those who are more experienced, learning will be differentiated, so you will be able to learn solo phrases and more!
Participants are expected to commit to regular at-home practice each week and space is limited to 10 participants.
Monday: Dunun - Loveland
Are you ready to deepen your relationship with the music? If so, this is the right class for you! This ongoing dunun class is held at a private residence, where we focus on stick and bell technique as well as the fundamental rhythmic structures found in traditional West African rhythms.
Currently, this class is focusing on intermediate-level music. If you are interested in joining, we can discuss whether this class is the appropriate level for you.
Requirements for joining this class include a commitment to weekly at-home practice. Dunun provided for in-class use.

Monday: All Levels Drumming - Loveland
The next West African Drumming series at Namaqua UU in Loveland begins Monday, August 17th!
- Mondays from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary
- Upcoming Dates: 08/17, 08/24, 08/31. Skip Labor Day 09/07, 09/14, 09/21 & 09/28
Learn and play all parts of a traditional rhythm, including djembe accompaniments, the break, solo phrases & traditional dunun parts.
During this upcoming series, we will start to explore how the drumming fits with traditional dance steps. Remember, this is dance music - 'there is not movement without rhythm.'
Instruction will be differentiated, so if you are a more experienced drummer, you can learn solo phrases and get practice leading the group and playing the echauffement. There's something for everyone!
Don't own a drum? No problem! Drums are available for in-class use.
Cost: $150 when you commit to the 6-week series; or $30/class
